Still of Threshold

We live in a world where people need to protect themselves; abusive relationships, unexpected accidents, disease, whatever the incident, people have their guard up. We try to be perceived as invulnerable to protect our permeable existence. This façade creates a mental illusion that humans are unsusceptible to the physical world in which we live.

In my work, I want to show the intermediacy between the body's resistance and susceptibility using plastic wrap to build the tension of the bodies resistance.

The videos present experiments using plastic and the body's ability to adapt. I want the material to draw attention to the beauty in physical vulnerability of the human body. The transparency of the material allows the viewer to watch the body persist the manipulation of plastic as the body bends, rolls, contracts, stretches, and more. The elasticity of the plastic and strength of the body provide tension in the material as it pulls, tugs, tears, and pops through the threshold of resistance in the plastic.
